Rod Evans

January 19 in the history of rock and metal music

Born in England in 1947. The first vocalist and one of the founders of the band Deep Purple. Since its founding in 1968, the band has recorded three albums with his participation. However, Evans’ singing style soon ceased to suit the band members. At the end of May 1969, they decided that Evans and bassist Nick Simper should leave the band. In 1980, a scandal was connected with the name of Evans with the alleged “re-creation” Deep Purple. He assembled a group of little-known musicians and gave several concerts in North America. The poor quality of the performance caused outrage among the audience, and soon there was a court with a decision to ban the performances of Evans’ band and to compensate for damages from the misuse of the band’s name and its material.
