Dan McCafferty, co-founder and former lead singer of Nazareth, died Nov. 8 at 76. Dan had one of the most recognizable voices in hard rock. Dan McCafferty was the lead singer in the band until 2013, but decided to leave Nazareth for health reasons, he had pulmonary emphysema, but still managed to record Rock ‘n’ Roll Telephone with the band. Likewise, Dan has released three solo albums, most recently on Oct. 18, 2019, Last Testament.
Nazareth co-founder and bassist Pete Agnew confirmed McCafferty’s death, writing the following:
Dan died at 12:40 today. This is the saddest announcement I ever had to make. Maryann and the family have lost a wonderful loving husband and father, I have lost my best friend and the world has lost one of the greatest singers who ever lived. Too upset to say anything more at this time.
The musician’s friends and colleagues have already expressed their condolences and support for the family. We join in.
